Why it works

Find the words your draft can do without

Long introductions, repeated points and roundabout phrases can make a useful sentence hard to follow. The shortener asks for a more concise version of the text you supply.

Keep the original beside the result when reviewing. Shortening can change emphasis, so check that important conditions, qualifications and requests are still present.

Trim filler and repetition

Turn phrases such as “due to the fact that” into simpler wording and reduce repeated setup.

Choose how much wording changes

Use Keep most, Rewrite some or Rewrite most to control how closely the rewrite follows your draft.

Review the meaning

The task is instructed to retain facts and qualifications. Check details such as “may,” “only if” and deadlines before using the result.

Choose the right edit

Shorter, simpler, or a different tone?

Simplify difficult wording →
Use the text simplifier when the problem is jargon or a complicated explanation. Clearer wording may take more words, not fewer.

Rewrite an email →
Use the email tool when the greeting, request, tone and sign-off need to work together. Choose Shorter there if the whole email is too long.

questions

What is included in the free preview?

There is one anonymous preview per network every 30 days, shared across Syntactor’s tools. A Free account includes 5 rewrites per month, up to 300 words per request. See Billing for current paid plans and allowances.

Can I shorten a paragraph as well as a sentence?

Yes. Paste a sentence or paragraph within your plan’s word limit. Review the whole result to check that connections between ideas remain clear.

Will it reach an exact word count?

An exact word count or reduction is not guaranteed. It requests more concise wording; a draft that is already brief may have little to remove.

Is shortening the same as summarizing?

This task asks for tighter wording while retaining the information in your draft. A summary selects only the main points. Check that the shortened version has not omitted something you need.

Are the rewritten details verified?

No automatic fact-checking or plagiarism checking is provided. Compare the rewrite with the original before sharing it.
